  • White Trash Girl
    Playing Out Loud UK

Subtle it ain’t but if you’re looking for a mixture of country, blues, gospel, rock and pop sung and performed with gusto, you may enjoy this. Recorded in Austin Texas with a bunch of talented musicians including a great keyboard and organ player Riley Osbourn, self-confessed trailer-trash girl Candye has a belting voice, and no lack of confidence by the sound of it. The album kicks off with ”White Trash Girl” and “Estrogen Bomb” and just zips along. Only problem maybe it’s just a little unrelenting and in your face. The exceptions are the catchy “What Happened To The Girl,” a neat version of The Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Daydream” and the gospelly closer “Let There Be Peace On Earth.” But in between the pace is somewhat uniform on songs like “Big Fat Mommas Are Back In Style” and “Work What You Get.” A bit overpowering eventually, but I bet Candye is a raunchy live act. Worth a listen.
