UPDATE: 12/9/04

San Diego based blues diva Candye Kane just finished recording her seventh CD, the second one for Germany based RUF records. White Trash Girl was recorded in Austin, Texas with Bassist Preston Hubbard (formerly of the Fabulous Thunderbirds during their hey day) and Damien Llanes on drums. Damien and Preston most recently played on recordings and toured with Nick Curran and the Nightlifes. Also present in the studio were harp player Gary Primich and Texas legend Riley Osbourn on piano and Johnny Moeller and David Grissom on guest guitar. Kane's new/old guitarist Jeff Ross played on most of the 14 tracks, ten of which were written or co-written by Kane. The CD was produced by Mark Kaz Kazanoff whose other credits include CDs for Marcia Ball, WC Clark and Pat Boyack. Kazanoff arranged the songs and lead the Texas Horn section on a couple of selections. Scorching blues and jump swing songs with titles like: Masturbation Blues, Estrogen Bomb, Queen of the Wrecking Ball and the title track, White Trash Girl, should keep Candye fans amused and offended for a long while to come. Visitors in the studio included Austin Chronicle Music Editor Margaret Moser, Rhythm Pig Bassist Gil T and Tall Tom Lewis, former drummer with Junior Brown and Jim Lauderdale.

Candye was also one of 50 artists featured in the new coffee table book “Elwood’s Blues – interviews with blues legends and stars”. Back Beat Books has published the best of the House of Blues interviews with Dan Akroyds blues persona, Elwood Blues.

Candye will embark on a two-week tour of Florida and the South on November 27th, returning home to San Diego on Dec. 16. Kane has also been busy writing her memoirs, tentatively titled “Just your Average Fat Illegitimate Teenage Welfare Mom, Plus Size Porn Star from East L.A.” and will embark on a three month tour of Europe on the RUF Records Blues Caravan with labelmates Sue Foley and Ana Popovic. Look for a January release of White Trash Girl at a truck stop or K mart store near you.

Hello everyone! I want to update you all on what’s going on with me. I was supposed to do a tour in Europe starting today with the great German blues band, BB and the Bluesshacks. We were to record a cd at the end of the three -week tour in Europe. The cd was supposed to be a peace cd. I figured that at a time of war and gruesome beheadings that a gesture of peace and reconciliation would be great. Because I am Jewish and the producer was Jewish we were going to do only peace and love songs and donate part of the cd proceeds to a worthy charity. But little by little, things started going wrong. A week of the tour in Europe was cancelled. The German band started vetoing songs and they seemed uncertain that they could play my chosen and original material. Then I discovered a small lump in my armpit near my left breast. I am hopeful that it’s just a cyst but needless to say I am going to a breast specialist this week. I decided that in light of all these developments, it would be better to cancel the European tour and stay home and take care of my health. I will be recording my cd in Austin the week of Thanksgiving. The cd will be called “White Trash Girl” after my song of the same title. It will feature many great musicians and friends of mine including Preston Hubbard from the original T-birds and Damien Llanez from Deke Dickerson and Nick Currans group. Other guests will be Steve James, Gary Primich, Jeff Ross and a host of other great people. I have been writing songs with Sarah Brown and Carolyn Wonderland and so I am very excited about this project. The cd will be produced by Mark Kaz Kazanoff with Clifford Antone as Executive Producer and Consultant. Look for a release early next year.

At the same time that I was dealing with canceling this European tour, my transmission went out on my Dodge Van on the way up to our gig in San Jose. The trannie will cost $3000 to fix and we had to cancel our San Jose gig. I want to apologize to all of you who were hoping to see me in San Jose and in Europe with the Bluesshacks. I felt very badly having to cancel and so I hope that you will understand WHY I cancelled and bear with me during this crazy time in my life. Please say a little prayer to the Goddess of your choice that my lump is just a stress cyst and that I will get better soon. Check my website often for updates and please make sure you do breast exams on yourself and on the breasts that you are closest to.

Eargasmically yours;

Candye Kane

UPDATE: 7/13/2004

Hello everyone from Tel Aviv!! This has been such a busy year for me...Athens, Greece in January, Europe in May including the fabulous Moulin Blues Festival in Holland and a visit to Prague, a great Midwest-East Coast tour including Summerfest in Milwaukee and now Israel!! When I come home I will go directly to the Toronto blues festival...and then to Australia. What a crazy year its been so far! I will be going in the studio in November to record my new cd. The verdict is still out as to where I will record it (London, Germany and Notodden, Norway are all possibilities) but I know it will be great because I am already working on the songs. I am going to try and have A PEACE ON EARTH theme to the new cd because I am so tired of all the murder and mayhem and lack of respect for human life in this world. I plan on recording some cool peace covers on the cd like "Fortunate Son" by John Fogerty as well as many Candye originals. Kyle Jester will be leaving my band by the first of the year 2005 to pursue his own solo career. We all wish him the best of luck. My former guitarist Jeff Ross will return to play with us so I am very excited about playing with Jeff again. He's a great musician and it is him who is featured on all the solos on the Whole Lotta Love cd. I have Oliver Steinberg on bass now who is an L.A. native. He also plays in a klezmer band in LA called KLezmer Juice. He's fun to have on the road and a great addition to the group and of course my son Evan is still on drums and that's a lot of fun.

The shows here in Israel are going well but not as well attended as my shows here two years ago. The intifada has crushed Israeli spirit as well as their economy and it shows at the box office. But the Ronnie Peterson band is great and very professional and we are making great music together. Israel is getting a lot of flack about their construction of a temporary wall between them and the West Bank. I really don't get the controversy. I mean, we have walls and barbed wire fences between the USA and Mexico and Canada in many places along our borders. Our wall is meant to keep peaceful workers out of our country, not suicide bombers, and no one says anything about it! If Mexicans were coming into the USA and blowing up innocent kids on busses, you can bet we would build reinforced walls all along the border with Mexico. It seems simple. If the Palestinians renounce the violence and use peaceful means of protest, the walls will come down, both physically and psychologically. I don't understand the new attitude that many fanatics seem to have adopted recently, beheading innocent people, blowing up buildings and vehicles that take innocent lives. What happened to marches and civil disobedience? When did it become okay to murder women and babies? I think these radical methods require radical responses including, unfortunately, walls in some cases. The wall on the map is crazy and goes into territory that is clearly not Israel's but I still think they have a right to protect themselves. They should just make sure the wall doesn't overlap into land that isn't theirs. That's where the real problem comes in because many Orthodox Jews are Nationalist and believe that the land belongs to them. It is a very emotional issue here in Israel where secular Jewish children are forced to join the military to defend the rights of the ultra -religious who have moved into Palestinian areas that were not sanctioned as Israeli property. These Ultra religious Jews don't work, they don't pay taxes and they teach their children to beg for money. All they do is study the Bible all day long at taxpayers expense. Meanwhile, hard working Israeli's children have to join the army to protect Israel from terrorism while the ultra religious move into Palestinian areas that aren't theirs. Still I believe the Israeli's have no choice but to try maverick approaches to protect themslves. The Wall will come down when the Palestinians prove that they don't want to kill themselves and take innocent people with them. I hate the walls that divide us in every way in this world. I wish we could live in a world where we could all be free to live next to and love and marry whomever we wish. So I will just keep spreading my message of love, self acceptance and diversity through my music. Thanks for reading this and for your support!! May you have many orgasms and ear-gasms in the next few months!!

love, candye

UPDATE: 1/9/2004

Hi everybody and Happy New Year! 2004 is the year of the monkey in Chinese astrology and the monkey is all about fun, playing and partying! I am really looking forward to partying with you in 2004!

I want to apologize once more to all my Floridian fans and friends. The New Years Eve gig at the nudist colony got cancelled at the last minute forcing me to cancel the entire tour. There just wasn’t enough money to come all the way from San Diego to Florida. But the good news is that I have a real, bonafide booking agent now…Steve at www.piedmonttalent.com…check out the website and the amazing people they have on their roster. I am sure I will be working a lot in ’04 and hope to be back in Florida this year.

I also want to apologize to those of you who have been waiting for merchandise from the candye store. Because of the holidays, I was unable to get some of the CD titles I needed to fulfill your orders. Many packages did go out before Christmas, but some were delayed in the mail. I haven’t been able to get t-shirts lately, but I will be getting some more very soon. I promise I will get all of you your merchandise as quickly as possible. Please remember I am a one woman show here, with two kids and I spend a lot of time on the road. Thanks so much for your gracious patience and your support.

I am glad the holidays are over. It was fun, but hectic too. I will be doing several shows in the L.a. area in the next month and also appearing as a guest with the Hudson Rocket blues band in Portland, Oregon for a couple of shows. I am working hard on my memoirs (again) – rewrite after rewrite. I hope to have them finished this year!

There’s a dvd out now of my live show. It is available at Tower records. It was filmed in Germany for a t.v. show called Ohnefilter. It features my original swing/blues band The Swingin’ Armadillo’s with Sue Palmer, Steve Wilcox, Greg Willis and Steve Geller. Check it out!

Here is a link to an interview I gave recently about my past occupation and the vigil I hosted for the Green River victims. It was written by my new friend David Steinberg who has just published an awesome book called “Photo Sex”.

Thanks again for all your friendship, love and support this past year. I have been so lucky to have such wonderful friends and fans. The gifts you give me at shows and through the mail, the photos you share with me, the little kindnesses mean so much to me! Special thanks to Jack and Fran, Mr. Tim, Ed Torres, Terry Gowler, Martin Pferret, Jocelyn Richez…and anyone I may have forgotten who sent me a card or a sweet email.

Goddess Bless You All!!!
Hope to see you at a show soon!
Love & Kisses;

Candye
