UPDATE: 9/29/2003
Howdy everybody!! Happy Fall! Tomorrow, 9/30/03 I will be appearing on
Playboy Radio on the XM channel! You can call in live to speak to me, Juli and
Tiffany at 800-359-9100 at 4:00 California time, Juli and Tiffany are the
hottest!!! I am super excited about appearing on their show. I will be home the
entire month of October..so come and see me at the Calypso restaurant in Leucadia
on Thursdays from 7:30 - 9:30. I am also excited about my upcoming trip to
Tucson and Phoenix. Sue Palmer will be joing us for these two shows! My european
birthday tour in november is looking fabulous too. I will also be in Florida
finally for all my Floridian fans in december and January! I'll be playing a
nudist colony on New Years Eve! come down and get naked. At all the upcoming
shows I will have lots of copies of my latest cd " Whole Lotta Love" for my
friends and fans. There is an excellent review of the cd in this months copy of
Blues Revue Magazine. The cd has also been nominated for CD of the year by the
San Diego Music Awards. For some reason, I was not nominated this year in the
Best Blues Band category. Please go to www.sandiegomusicawards.com, click on
vote now! and write my name in the blues band category. You may also want to
write Sue Palmer in on the jazz band category. It only takes a second and we
really need your help! Thanks in advance.
Other news: I just got home from a great tour of the northwest. I played
a really fun benefit in Seattle for Marlee Walker and her excellent Blues
newsletter " Bluestodo's". It was my pleasure to be part of such a fun show. Other
highlights from the tour were the nightly appearance of the Big Bottom
Burlesque Girls. They were so sexy and amazing. It was truly empowering seeing them
strip down to their g strings every night. So much bountiful booty! Those
girls are very brave and I heard from many people how inspiring it was to see big
women boldy display their virtues. Our show at the Tractor was particularly
fun when Eric "Two Scoops" Moore sat in with us all night. On the last song we
had 15 big women up there shaking up the crowd in Ballard. I can guarantee
there has never been that much flesh on the stage at the Tractor Tavern! Go to
www.bigburlesque.com for more info.
I am also thrilled to be part of a new tribute to Wanda Jackson cd that
will be released on Bloodshot records very soon. This cd features Wayne
Hancock, Kelly Hogan, Neco Case, Rosie Flores, Cornell Hurd and many many more of my
friends! I am so happy!!!
Other highlights this past month were my appearance for a benefit for the
Phoenix Women's Shelters in Los Angeles. Organized by my cd cover hair
stylist Joseph Rene, they raised 2000$ at the silent auction held at the Del Sol
Salon in Arcadia. The shelter ladies had a makeover day where they had their
hair, make up and nails done. It was wonderful seeing the transformation. I
provided the music and the P.A. system with my friends Jeff Ross and Gregory Boaz.
Special thanks to Anita York for providing copies of the "Angels all Around
Us" cd for the ladies! I also did my first spoken word performance in New York
City at the Moth on September 23. It was a storytelling event and I told a
story from my memoirs in progress. I was very nervous as it was the first time I
had spoken in front of a large crowd without singing. But the audience was
very sweet and responsive.
This was an amazing summer for me. I appeared at the Ascona Jazz Festival
in Switzerland. It was breathtakingly beautiful and I met and befreinded
musicians from New Orleans and England! Denyse Gordon, Topsy Chapman, Big Al,
Juanita Brooks and many many more. I also appeared in Rossano Italy for a memorial
show for my former guitarist Marco Fiume. I played with Alex Schultz, Russell
Scott, Lynwood Slim amd Marc Anthony. We had a wonderful time in Italy with
Marcos' incredible family and it was a special way to remember a friend and
musician we all knew and loved!
I want to wish all my fellow Jews a wonderful New Year and I hope to see
all of you more in the coming months. Thanks again for all the love and
support you give me! I couldn't do it without you! Here's to peace and love and
good health to all of us in the coming months!
With a whole lotta love and kisses;

except for the mosquitos, ascona switzerland is paradise. the new orleans jazz festival is sooo much fun and we are having an amazing time, making new friends and playing to thousands of wonderful, listening, demonstrative music lovers. I have made lots of new friends here, many of them new orleans musicians. Juanita Brooks and Topsy Chapman are my new favorite singers and I love them so much! Big Al Carson is anothern true original as are Leroy Jones and Pug and Bob Wilbur. All real traditional jazz musicians and a lot of fun. Next week, I will go to Rome for a few days off and then on to Rossano where we will play a benefit for Marco Fiume's family. Marco, if you remember, was my little Italian guitarist for awhile, who committed suicide last year at the tender age of 29.Sue Palmer is playing piano with me on these gigs and this has been her first european performance since her bout with breast cancer, so we are all happy to have her around and healthy. I also have both my sons here with me and thats so much fun. I hope you all had a grat fourth of July. I was watching a gospel show on the fourth, singing along to "down by the riverside" and really feeling the " i aint gonna study war no more" line, like never before. Here's hoping we won't have to wage war on anyone else anytime soon...Your grateful, happy and humbled diva in switzerland, candye XXXX

hospital. he is doing much better now though he has lost his hearing on the

be able to stay sober this time. On another note, I am playing this Friday

Hi everybody! Had a great tour of Europe! I'd like to thank all my fans and
friends who came out to see me. We did a great show in Esjeberg, Denmark with
my pal Rick Estrin and Little Charlie and the Nightcats. It was so fun
hanging out with Rick again. Also, the show in Grand Synth France with
Sherman Robertson was unbelievable. Great seeing my former roomate Sax
Gordon. AND Johnny Ferraira sat in with us in Weinheim, Germany and that was
sooo awesome. It was my son Evan's first trip to Europe where he was actually
PAID to play music. That was an incredible moment for me the first time, as
well. It was really fun for me to have him on the road. I was hospitalized in
Belgium for one night which was a real bummer. I had some sort of pancreatic
thing. It was painful and scary but I managed to get sick on my day off so I
didn’t even miss a show! I am fine now, thank Goddess.
Please note on the calendar there are some new dates and some changes.
Columbus has been moved to a different date. I am excited about coming out
there and seeing all my old friends and making new ones. The new cd is
finished and I think it sounds good. I hope you will all like it as much as
I do. I should have some just in time for my mid west and east coast tour.My
bass player Bryan has quit and joined the navy! So for this May- June tour I
am pleased to announce that Gregory Boaz is playing bass with me on loan from
Dave Alvins band. Greg rocks and he’s adorable. Of course, he will always be
Smoggy to me. Back in punk rock 80’s l.a., he was the bass player in Tex and
the Horseheads and was known as Smog Vomit. We both worked at the L.A. Weekly
together, many many moons ago. Come out and see us!
Thanks so much for all the emails of concern about my friend Sista Monica
who is battling a rare form of cancer. Please visit her website at :
www.sistamonica.com and read her story. She is an amazing woman with
tremendous heart and soul. I have played with Monica in Belgium, Santa Cruz,
Coos Bay and Australia. She is an incredible performer with an awesome show.
check out her gospel cd. ...and please, pray for her...
Thanks;
candye kane

Hello everybody! I have been so depressed about this war that all I can do is
bury myself in music. I am playing as much as possible and booking dates all
across the country so I can come and see YOU in your town. Thursday April
3rd, I will be appearing live on the web in a special show with my friend
Jack Tempchin and my guitarist Kyle Jester. Jack is a great songwriter who
wrote "Peaceful Easy feeling" for the Eagles, and many other gigantic hits.
He also co wrote with me "All you can Eat and You Can Eat it All Night Long".
Kyle is also a fine young songwriter and singer so be sure and tune in. We
will be doing songwriters in the
round, performing songs from my new cd "Whole Lotta Love" and other new
songs, never heard before by my fans. Please visit:
www.kulakswoodshed.com / 8 pm california time to see us live.
also, all my future dates at martini blues in huntington beach california
will be simulcast live at www.martiniblues.com.
UPDATE: 3/7/2003
Hello everybody. Regrettably, I will not be travelling to Texas for SXSW or
the Texas dates I had. The tour ended up being only 4 shows and I just could
not afford to go out there for just four shows with the rising costs of gas
and the low guarantees that clubs are willing to pay. With the recent
nightclub fire in Rhode Island and an already troubled economy, many clubs
are cutting back their music nights to just three nights a week, (Thursday,
Friday and Saturday) or closing entirely. This makes playing live music an
even more impossible career choice. Still I am determined to continue to do
what I love, playing music and meeting YOU, my friends and fans. Please come
out to a show soon and support live music. We need your help desperately so
that we don’t end up disappearing like musicians on Broadway, and 8 track
players. On another note, my Northwest run went fabulously and we had great
shows and a fun time, especially in Canada. It’s been great having my son
Evan playing drums in my band now. He still has a lot of work to do on his
chops, but is coming along nicely. Hope to see you all on the road somewhere,
SOON! Love and Kisses; Candye XOXOX
UPDATE: 2/2/2003
Hello everyone!! I am sad to announce that Paul Fasulo has quit my band to
play with The Mighty Flyers. I love Paul and will miss him, but I wish him
the best of luck with Rod and Honey. I am PROUD to announce that replacing
him will be my son Evan. he is just 22, but he is a drum teacher and an
incredible person. His frist gig with us will be this Friday at the Tea
House in Torrance. The Tea House has incredible chinese food and is really a
fun place to see us! please come down! On another note, I have been super
busy for the last two weeks recording my new cd; entitled “Whole Lotta
Love”. My good friend Grammy Winner Val Garay produced and engineeres and it
sounds amazing! (if i do say so myself!). The CD features incredible
performances by great people, including a duet with the great Charlie
Musselwhite, and guitar playing and harp by Charlie as well. The wonderful
Larry Taylor did a fantastic job on string bass as did the Reverend Billy C.
Wirtz on my 50’s rocker “I’m just a sucker who believes in love.” Harmonica
great RJ Mischo also did amazing solos and organist Stevie Utstein was a
fine addition. We used Richie Heywood on drums who is the original drummer
from Little Feat. Steve Goldstein played piano in between his musical
directing job for Ann Margaret. Also on the cd were my amazing touring
musicians, Kyle Jester and Bryan Ugartechea. It should be released and
available by June 2003. I am soooo excited!!!
I am also hard at work making my new therapeutic bra pillows. I want to
thank all of you for your advance orders and all your support and interest.
Hope to see you at a show soon!!!
UPDATE: 1/5/2003
Happy new year everybody! I know this year will be better than the last!
(except for the war). I am excited about recording a new cd; tentatively
titled “Whole Lotta Love” on a German label with U.S. distribution, RUF
records. RUF also has releases by Canned Heat, Luther and Bernard Allison and
Michael Hill, so I am in great company. We will record in January with my
good friend Grammy Winner Val Garay producing and engineering. The CD will
feature a lot of great people, including a duet with the great Charlie
Musselwite, and guitar playing and harp by Charlie as well. Also will be
guest appearances by my hero Dave Alvin, the wonderful Larry Taylor, the
fabulous RJ Mischo and Stevie Utstein, and the luscious Miss Dizzy Burnette.I
am so blessed to be able to make music for another year. It is only because
of people like YOU that I manage to survive. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK
YOU!!! Hope to see you all out at a show sometime soon!!
